Eating soup and staying warm!

It has been a hectic week but finally sitting down and writing my second post. It has been dreadfully cold here lately, it is now definitely winter which I am taking full advantage of by making soup everyday this week. Which has definitely made these cold days a little better. Uni has been pretty full on having done a presentation for my social change class and churning out a whole lot of artist books for my assignment which I had forgotten were due, which was very clever of me.But mostly I want to talk about this fabulous lecture I had on Friday held by Rmit university and AGDA called 'First Five Out : Passion Projects' which was just so so so inspiring. It was seven speakers in their first five years out of study talking about their passion projects, as sometimes we get bogged down in work or uni that we forget to just do things for us because we love it.

This is me to a tee so I made it my mission to start to do more things that I want to do/learn and stop putting it off for later. Looking through my illustration draw (yes I have a cabinet of work, Don't we all?) I found many Illustration or ideas that I started but never finished... One being these three pretty ladies which I also bought a frame from Ikea.. yet somehow never ended up finishing. I used to be very obsessed with drawing elaborate hair as I never considered my face drawing very good, I would focus on the parts I could put a lot of pattern into. The shell pattern has been a pattern I have drawn from a very young age and has always made it's way into my illustrations. Inspired by the nursery rhyme that was sung to me, 'Mary, Mary, Quite contrary' which I always found very weird that she grew shells in her garden (not realising it was a type of flower) but never the less I tried to draw it, making a shape/pattern that I would be using quite frequently in my illustration work. The lady with the flowers in her hair was inspired by a photo shoot I did with a photographer and a stylist for a magazine brief where I actually made some flower head pieces ( no where near as elaborate as my drawings but still pretty) for the shoot, which was fun and something I had never done before.

Well that's it for now, I have finally made a blog plan so I will be a lot more organised in posting/doing my own projects. Also check back later in the week, I will have a little give away prize in celebration of starting the new blog.

  1. Yes I think they enjoy their life in a frame over their life in a draw :D
